Raspberry

These jewel-like, soft berries are packed with health enhancing antioxidants and other protective nutrients that are powerful fighters of infections and diseases, including cancer and heart problems.

One of the top fruit sources of fiber, raspberries are helpful for keeping cholesterol low and improving digestion, as well as detoxifying the body and keeping blood-sugar levels steady.

Raspberries are naturally astringent and can, therefore, help to treat upset stomachs and diarrhea. They have antimicrobial effects that can prevent the proliferation of bacteria and fungi in the digestive system.

One of these, Candida albicans, causes the irritating vaginal infection called thrush and has also been linked with digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome. Raspberries are also said to protect against allergies.

Like other berries, raspberries are high in anthocyanins, powerful antioxidants that help the body to produce cells to fight off unwanted invaders.

The anthocyanins in raspberries have anti-inflammatory properties, thus protecting from conditions such as arthritis.

The fruits also contain ellagic acid, which is anti-carcinogenic and prevents adverse cellular changes and may be especially useful for pre venting cancers of the mouth, throat, and colon. It is also thought to pro mote the healing of wounds.

Raspberries contain high levels of infection-fighting vitamin C, which boosts immunity and can help to prevent everything from heart disease to eye problems.

They are packed with a host of absorbable minerals, including calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium, all of which are essential to general good health.

Raspberries are also particularly helpful to those suffering from heart problems, fatigue, and depression, as well as convalescents.

Traditionally, an infusion made from raspberry leaves can facilitate labor by acting as a uterine relaxant and a tonic.
