Soothing and comforting, milk provides liquid nutrition helpful in preventing and treating a great many conditions. Best known for its calcium content, it helps to strengthen bones and fight off heart disease.
Milk Benefits is the first-class protein, providing building blocks that are especially useful in a child’s diet. The abundance of calcium in milk gives it the ability to strengthen bones and to help to stave off osteoporosis. Studies have also shown that calcium may help to reduce blood pressure as well as lower cholesterol levels. Its potassium content is key in fighting heart disease and may prevent strokes. It may also contain substances that reduce the liver’s production of cholesterol and lower blood pressure.
A good source of vitamin B12, which combats memory loss, hearing problems and fatigue, milk also contains vitamin B2, which is known to promote healthy skin and good vision. Another of its nutrients, the antioxidant vitamin E, also benefits the skin and eyes, as well as boosting the immune system. Skimmed milk is also believed to have anti-carcinogenic properties.
Many women become irritable, forgetful or depressed just before a period starts – the well-known symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS). A glass of milk could be the simplest remedy, as it contains many nutrients that can lift and stabilize mood. It’s rich in calcium and vitamin D, which together have been found to reduce or even prevent PMS symptoms.
Milk Benefits | Cold milk can also be useful when you need to stay awake because it triggers the brain’s production of dopamine and noradrenaline, two substances that keep you alert. As with other animal foods, its best to buy organic milk. This has been found to contain up to 70 percent more omega-3 oils than ordinary milk, helping the brain to function at optimal efficiency.
Studies show that drinking chocolate milk improves endurance more than conventional carbohydrate-only sports drinks because it contains the ideal ratio of carbohydrates to protein to help refuel tired muscles. Try a home-made milkshake, a smoothie or a cup of cocoa within two hours of exercise. The body converts these post-exercise calories into glycogen to deliver carbohydrates straight to fuel-depleted muscles.
