Uses Of Lemon
ZESTY LEMON DRESSING
- 60ml/ 2fl oz lemon juice
- 185ml /6fl oz tomato juice
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 tsp wholegrain mustard
- grated zest of 1 lemon
Add all the ingredients, apart from the lemon zest, to a jar with a screw top and shake well. Pour into a bowl arid add the zest, blending in with a fork. Drizzle immediately over a salad.
LEMON POULTICE (For boils & abscesses)
- 1 lemon, sliced
- Gauze bandage
Use the bandage to tie a slice of lemon against the boil or abscess. A hot-water bottle can be used to apply heat if desired. Leave for about 10 minutes, and then discard. Repeat 2 or 3 times a day until the boil opens and drains.
LEMON TONER (To treat thread veins)
- 4 tsp vegetable glycerin
- juice of1 lemon
- 1 drop neroli essential oil
- 1 drop rose essential oil
Mix the vegetable glycerin with the lemon juice and add the essential oils. Apply twice daily to thread veins. Keeps in a sealed jar for up to 3 months.
- 4 skinless TUNA or other fish fillets
- Juice and grated zest of 1 lemon
- Juice and grated zest of 1 lime
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp finely chopped chives
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
Preheat the grill and place the fish on a foil-lined grill pan. Mix the zests with the oil and coat each fish fillet. Grill for around 8-10 minutes, until cooked through, turning once. Mix together the juices, chives, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the fish and serve immediately.
- 750ml/ 26fl oz/ 3 cups carbonated water
- 600ml/ 21fl oz/ 2 ¼ cups white grape juice
- juice of 3 lemons
- 1 tbsp agave syrup
Put all the ingredients in a glass pitcher and stir. Serve chilled with plenty of ice.
LEMONY STUFFING BALLS (Make 10 balls)
- 1small onion, quartered
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tbsp chopped rosemary
- 125g/ 4 ½ oz/ 1 ½ cups fresh white breadcrumbs
- Juice and grated zest of 1 lemon
Whizz the onion, egg and rosemary in a blender until smooth. In a bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the lemon juice and zest, then combine the mixtures together. Form into 10 small balls. Place on a baking tray and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F/ gas mark 4 for 25 minutes. Serve as an accompaniment.
