Cucumber Salad Vegetable
Laden with water, this popular Cucumber Salad Vegetable is well known for its skin-healing properties. Packed with mineral-rich fluid, it aids digestion by keeping the body well hydrated.
Appreciated both as a food and as a skin healer by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans, cucumbers are one of the best diuretic foods thanks to their high water and balanced mineral content.
By promoting the flow of urine, and “flushing” it through the kidneys, cucumber helps the body to eliminate toxins, thereby aiding detoxification.
Benefits of Cucumber | Cucumber can be used topically to relieve various skin afflictions, including puffy eyes and sunburn. Its vitamin C and caffeic acid, which relieve inflammation and water retention, may explain why it is so effective for the skin.
Popular in beauty products, cucumber helps to maintain a youthful appearance, thanks to its hydrating and anti-inflammatory properties.
The rich fiber content of cucumbers keeps the digestive system moving and, unlike some other high-fiber foods, comes balanced with its own supply of fluid.
Eating cucumbers can ease or prevent constipation, which is often exacerbated by not drinking enough water.
It’s helpful, too, if you’ve had diarrhoea, because as well as rehydrating, it replaces vital minerals. Cucumber is also a source of erepsin, an enzyme that helps the body to digest protein.
Fresh cucumber juice can alleviate acid reflux and indigestion and is also useful for treating gum disease.
The minerals in cucumbers are clustered in the peel. The magnesium and potassium help to keep blood pressure in check.
Cucumbers are a rich source of silica, needed for healthy skin, bone and connective tissue, and together with sulfur, this mineral promotes the growth of healthy hair and strong nails.
Silica also plays a major role in preventing cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
